Ogden

The county seat of Weber County, Ogden lies 35 miles north of Salt Lake City on I-15.

Ogden is named after Peter Skene Ogden, an early fur trader. Mormons came to the region in 1847. The city was incorporated in 1861 and grew rapidly after the arrival of the transcontinental railroad in 1869. The Golden Spike, which completed the line, was driven near Ogden in 1869.

Today Ogden, population 77,226, is Utah's second largest city behind Salt Lake City. It is a transportation and industrial hub. Construction, the Ogden Defense Depot, Hill Air Force Base and tourism contribute to the city's economy. Points of interest include the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Visitor Center and Relic Hall, which includes the 1845 Miles Goodyear Cabin; Eccles Community Arts Center, featuring the work of local artists; and the Ogden Tabernacle and Temple. The Great Salt Lake is nearby as well as Snow Basin, a major ski resort at Mt. Ogden.
