Spartanburg

Spartanburg is located in Spartanburg County and it is the county seat. The city is situated east of Greenville along Highway 29, near the Pacolet River.

The county and city were named after the Spartan Regiment, a South Carolina militia group which saw action in the Revolutionary War.

Incorporated in 1831, Spartanburg has a population of nearly 44,500. The city covers approximately 19.25 square miles. The average annual temperature is 59 degrees F with an average rainfall of 50.45 inches and an average snowfall of 1.20 inches per year.

More than 35 industries have made Spartanburg their corporate headquarters. Among them are Siemens Allis, Kohler Company and Michelin Tire Corporation.

Community attractions include the Hampton Heights Historic District, Hatcher Gardens & Woodland Preserve, and the Regional Museum of Spartanburg County, among others. The University of South Carolina at Spartanburg is a few miles north of the city.

Spartanburg is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metro area.
