Western Region

Numerous natural, historic and cultural destinations as well as miles of Lake Erie shoreline are features of the energetic city of Erie. The Erie National Wildlife Refuge near Meadville is home to more than 200 species of birds. Erie's historic vessels are the theme at the Erie Maritime Museum/US Brig Niagara in the Bayfront District. Discovery Square comprises the Erie History Center, Erie Art Museum and Experience Children's Museum. Warner Theatre is the venue for the Erie Philharmonic.

Various ethnic neighborhoods, foods, arts and attractions come together in Pittsburgh. This city is spectacular when viewed from the Duquesne Incline and Mt. Washington inclines. With some 26,000 registered boats, Pittsburgh is the country's biggest inland port. Among those vessels is a fleet of riverboats for sightseers. Famous pop artist Andy Warhol is well-represented at a museum devoted solely to his work. Seven state parks, many covered bridges and small town delicacies grace the surrounding area. Two sects of Old Order Amish farm in Lawrence County.

Indian trails, boating, fishing and swimming can be found in the Laurel Highlands/Southern Alleghenies, while American history and Americana combine in such towns as Altoona, Johnstown and Indiana. Hiking, hunting and exploring are natural pursuits in more than 50,000 acres of state forest and game lands. Rail lines are given over to walking and biking trails. The historic National Road, the nation's first federally funded highway, runs through here. The Swigart Antique Auto Museum displays the classics and their history.
