Situated forty-five minutes east of Eugene on Highway 126, Vida is close to a great deal of recreation and Outdoor Activities on the McKenzie River.
The original name of this small community was Gate Creek. This resulted in confusion with Gates Creek in Washington County. The name Vida was selected because it was the name of the daughter of the postmaster, Francis A. Pepiot. The Vida post office was established April 12, 1898.
Vida is part of the Eugene-Springfield, Oregon metro area.
