Named for its location on Silver Creek, Silverton is a Marion County community 15 miles east of the state capital in Salem along Hwy 213.

The first pioneers came to the banks of the Silver Creek, following timber and water power, in the 1800s. Silverton was incorporated in 1885.

Today, the success of the Oregon Garden of a partnership between the Garden, a private enterprise attracting tourists to botanical displays, and the City of Silverton.
