McMinnville is the county seat of Yamhill County, which is located southwest of Portland, between Lafayette and Amity. Positioned along Highway 99W near the Willamette River, the City of McMinnville was named and founded by William T. Newby in 1843. Newby was a pioneer from McMinnville, Tennessee.

Before gaining its glamorous reputation as Oregon's wine-producing center, McMinnville was known as the home of Linfield College, which was established in 1857. Points of interest include the Renshaw Art Gallery and the Linfield Little Theatre. Since 1985, McMinnville has hosted the International Pinot Noir Celebration where wine enthusiasts from all over the world enjoy wine during this weekend festival.
