Hillsboro

Located in Washington County, 20 minutes west of Portland near the Columbia River, Hillsboro is nestled in the Tualatin Valley, halfway between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains.

Hillsboro, founded in 1842, was home for several of the settlers who helped establish a civil government for the Oregon Territory. This community was also incorporated in 1876. The town has grown from a small farming community and government center into a modern city of 70,000 residents.

Railroads once crisscrossed western Oregon in the 1870s. Besides making it possible for the exchange of durable goods and materials, railroads brought a second wave of immigrants-Dutch, Swiss, Germans and Scandinavians-who settled on farms in the valley.

Hillsboro is known mostly as a center for high-tech industries; Although, produces thousands of gallons of berry and fruit wines annually.

There is also a Hillsboro, North Dakota.

Hillsboro is part of the Portland-Vancouver, Oregon-WA metro area.
