Brookings

Brookings is located in Curry County, between Gold Beach and the California boarder, along Hwy 101 on the Pacific Ocean coastline. Also situated at Cape Ferrelo, near Harris Beach State Park and Samuel H. Boardman State Park.

The original town of Brookings was established by John E. Brookings, when he moved his lumber business from the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California in 1913. Brookings hired a renowned architect, Bernard Maybeck, to lay out the street design for what is now the core area of the city.

Because of its unusually mild climate, Brookings and the extreme southwestern Oregon area is known as "The Banana Belt of Oregon." Flowers bloom all year, about 90% of America's Easter lilies are grown here.

The port of Brookings-Harbor and the Chetco and Winchuck rivers provide popular fishing areas for salmon and steelhead.
