Fargo is located in souyheastern North Dakota in Cass County and is the county seat. It lies on the Minnesota border along i29 on the banks of the Red River of the North. Neighboring Moorhead, MN is fargo's sister city.
Founded in 1871, the area was settled by Scandinavian and European immigrants and was named for William G. Fargo of the Wells-Fargo Express Company.
Local attractions include the Clay County Museum & Archives in Moorhead; West Fargo's "Bonanzaville", 15 acres of historic buildings and specialty museums and "Stavkirke", Norwegian for "stave church," a replica built with its pagodalike shingled roofs.
Edgewood and Rose Creek Golf Courses are two of the rare public 18-hole courses to be found in the in the state while Prairiewood GC offers an executive-style 9-hole, par 32 layout.
