Greensboro

Greensboro is located in Guilford County and is the county seat. It is situated east of Winston-Salem between Kernersville and Burlington, along Interstate 85.

The city occupies 109.4 square miles and the population is estimated at 209,000. The average yearly temperature ranges from a maximum 68.7 F to a minimum 47.6 F and the average yearly rainfall is 50.24 inches.

Guilford County's top industries, according to employment and wages, are service, manufacturing and the retail trade.

Saura and Keyauwee Indians were the earliest inhabitants of the surrounding Piedmont area. The first settlers were predominantly Germans, Quakers of Welsh and English descent and Scotch-Irish, who came to the Piedmont from Northern colonies to work the land. Permanent settlement began around 1740 and Greensboro was chartered in 1808.

The CityStage ArtsFest in early October and the Fun Fourth Festival on Independence Day are held annually.

Greensboro is part of the Greensboro--Winston-Salem--High Point metro area.
