Skaneateles is located in Onondaga County in the Western Region of the state 17 miles SW of Syracuse and east of Auburn between Auburn and Cardiff along Highway 20 near Skaneateles Lake. Skaneateles is part of the Syracuse, New York metro area.

Skaneateles is a summer vacation getaway for former President Bill Clinton and U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton.
