Albany

Albany is located in Albany County, 156 miles due north of New York City in the Central Region part of the state. It lies between Kingston and Glen Falls along Interstate 87 on the banks of the Hudson River. Albany is the state capital. The city's modern governmental complex, construction of which began in 1962, contrasts with its pastoral surroundings along the Hudson River. Albany's notable citizens have included U.S. Presidents Martin Van Buren, Millard Fillmore, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as well as authors Herman Melville and Henry James. The Albany Urban Cultural Park Visitor Center, at the intersection of Broadway and Clinton avenues at Quakenbush Square, has hands-on exhibits tracing the history of Albany.

Albany is part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, New York metro area.
