Lewis and Clark Region

The Lewis and Clark Region of Nebraska is bordered on the north and east boundaries of the state by the Missouri River, once navigated by trappers, traders and Native American Indians. The river has since been the molder of this fertile land, first explored by Lewis and Clark in 1804.

Poets such as John Neihardt were inspired by the beauty of the land and river, and by the spiritual heritage of the region's Sioux and Omaha Indian cultures.
