North Platte

North Platte is located in Lincoln County (of which it is the county seat) 50 miles east of Ogallala between Ogallala and Gothenburg along I-80 on the banks of the Platte River near Lake Maloney, Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area and the Jeffrey Reservoir.

In 1868 William Peniston, from Yorkshire, England, and A.J. Miller, "an Easterner," partners in a road ranch at Willow Island, acting on information that the Union Pacific would establish an important division point just west of the junction of the rivers, moved there and built a general store. By November the rails had crossed the North Platte River and the town of "North Platte" became a reality.

Popular attractions in North Platte include: Scout's Rest Ranch (home of Buffalo Bill Cody), North Platte Canteen Display, Lincoln County Historical Museum and the Cody Park Railroad Museum.
