Helena

In Lewis and Clark County where US 12 meets I-15, Helena is the capitol of Montana State, and proclaims itself: "Queen City of the Rockies."

It started out as a mining camp when gold, silver, and copper were discovered in the Deer Lodge Valley.

Helena's city limits border the Helena National Forest, a million acres of recreational and resource opportunities, including the southern range of the vast Bob Marshall and Scapegoat Wilderness areas. Helena offers great skiing, hunting or hiking in the nearby mountains. The Missouri River flows nearby to the east, and numerous reservoirs provide water recreation opportunities, including blue-ribbon fisheries. Helena, Montana is also known for The Lewis and Clark trail, named for the famous explorers who traveled through here in 1805.
