Darby is located in Ravalli County 64 miles south of Missoula on US 93 on the banks of the Bitterroot River near Conner and the Idaho state line.

Darby lies in the heart of Bitterroot Valley. This prime recreation area claims Painted Rocks State Park, Alta Ranger Station, the first USDA Forest Service ranger station, and Darby Pioneer Memorial Museum.
