Southfield

Southfield is in Oakland County, and in the Southeast Region. This community is located on the northern city limits of Detroit between Farmington Hills and St Clair Shores along Highway 102 on the banks of the Detroit River near Anchor Bay and Lake St Clair.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 75,104, a decrease of 623 since 1990.

Southfield is part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area.

Southfield was first settled in 1823 by John Daniels. A post office was established ten years later. The potential water power of the River Rouge is what first attracted people to the area. The community steadily grew because of its relationship to Detroit, and became a commodity in the development of the auto industry. Southfield is considered to be one of Michigans leading corporate communities.
