Midland

Midland is in Midland County (of which it is the county seat), and in the Central Region. This community is located just northwest of Saginaw between Mount Pleasant and Bay City along US Highway 10 on the banks of the Tittawabasee River near Sanford Lake and Saginaw Bay. Midland is part of the Saginaw-Bay City-Midland, Michigan metro area.

In 1836, Midland was first settled by John A. Whitman. This city originally grew as an excellent distribution point for floating wood during the late 1800s lumbering boom. Later, Herbert H. Dow started the Brine & Salt Works, which later became Dow Chemical Company, currently the citys largest business.

Today you can visit the "Tridge", a triple-sectioned walking bridge in City Park, spanning the junction of the Chippewa and Tittabawassee Rivers. The Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area is popular location. And check out the Pere Marquette Rails-To-Trails State Park, it's a great spot for bicycling, with the trail currently paved 35 miles westward to Coleman.
