Annapolis

Annapolis is located in Anne Arundel County, 32 miles east of Washington D.C., on US 301/50 near Chesapeake Bay.

Annapolis was first settled in 1649 and designated State Capital in 1694. For nine months, it was the capital of the United States. At Annapolis, General George Washington resigned as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Armies. The Treaty of Paris was ratified here to end the war with Great Britain, bringing birth to a new nation.

Today, Annapolis is frequently called the "sailing capital of the United States." Many sailing vessels find their home berth at Annapolis and it is home of the United States Naval Academy. The city also is the site of the world's largest sail and power boat shows. St. John's College in Annapolis is one of the country's oldest, founded in 1696.

Annapolis is part of the Baltimore, Maryland metro area.
