Alexandria

Alexandria is located in Rapides Parish (of which it is the parish seat), within the Crossroads Region, southeast of Shreveport between Natchitoches and Opelousas along Interstate 49 on the banks of the Red River near Boyce, Lecompte, Pineville, and the Catahoula Ranger District & Evangeline Ranger District of the Kisatchie National Forest.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 45,800, a decrease of 3,249 since 1990.
