Indianapolis

Indianapolis, the State Capital, is located in Marion County and is the county seat. It lies in the center of the State, with the White River running through it. The city also is near Geist and Morse reservoirs.

The architects of the nation's capital laid out Indianapolis on a mile-square grid, with Monument Circle at the center. This convergence point for four diagonal streets, as well as the site of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, stands at the middle of downtown.

Indianapolis, considered the racing capital of the world, is the home of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway; a significant contributor to its economy is visitor spending at this and other sporting venues. The city also is known as the Crossroads of America; it is roadway-accessible for more than five million out-of-towners annually. More interstate highways intersect Indianapolis than any other. A history-oriented community, Indianapolis boasts numerous monuments, museums and other attractions.
