Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne is located in Allen County of which it is the county seat. Fort Wayne, Indiana’s second largest city, lies west of New Haven along Highway 24, on the banks of the St. Joseph River. The St. Joseph, St. Mary and Maumee Rivers converge in the middle of the city.

Fort Wayne is home to Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, among others. The city features the award-winning Lincoln Museum, a botanical conservatory and the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo.

Fort Wayne is the final resting place of Johnny Appleseed, a.k.a. John Chapman, who planted hundreds of apple trees across the Midwest and West in the late 1700s and early 1800s. He was buried along the St. Joseph river near present-day Johnny Appleseed Park, where an annual fall festival honors his memory.
