Bloomington

Bloomington is located in central Illinois in McLean County and is the county seat. It lies east-southeast of Peoria along Interstate 74, near Evergreen Lake and Lake Bloomington.

Bloomington, population about 70,000, is a twin city with Normal. It is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in Illinois with an estimated 20.25 percent population increase between 1986 and 1995.

The city is located in one of the nation's most productive agricultural areas, but its economy is diverse serving as headquarters for such firms as State Farm, Verizon and General Electric. Bloomington also is home to "Beer Nuts", a popular snack food.

Post-high school education can be found at Illinois Wesleyan University and Illinois State University (in Normal).

Cultural attractions include the country's longest-running Passion play, the Illinois Shakespeare Festival and the Illinois Symphony Orchestra.

Golfers have a nice selection of courses from which to choose including Highland Park Golf Club, Prairie Vista Golf Course and The Den at Fox Creek.
