Tybee Island

Tybee Island is located in Chatham County near the Savannah River in the Coast Region of the state. Located at the end of Hwy 80, just south and east of Savannah. Wormsole State Historic Site and Fort Pulaski National Monument are nearby. Tybee Island is part of the Savannah, Georgia metro area.

One tradition says the island was named for a Choctaw chief, while another suggests its name derives from an Indian term for "salt".
