Alpharetta

Alpharetta is located in Fulton County just north of Atlanta between Cumming and Roswell along Interstate 19 on the banks of the Chattahoochee River near Lake Sidney Lanier in the Metro Atlanta Region of the state. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 24,831, an increase of 11,829 since 1990.

Alpharetta is part of the Atlanta, Georgia metro area.

One tradition has it that the community is named after Alfarata, a girl in a 19th-century song; another says it is named after the first letter of the Greek alphabet.
