Tallahassee

Tallahassee is located in Leon County. It is the State Capital as well as the county seat. Tallahassee lies along Interstate 10 on the banks of the Ochlockonee River, near the Georgia state line. The city's rolling landscape, typical of regions farther north, stands alone among the state's major cities. The area enjoys a mild, moist climate and experiences a subtropical summer similar to the rest of Florida. Unlike panhandle cities, Tallahassee also experiences four seasons.

The Capitol, completed in 1845, and the one in Austin, Texas, were the only Confederate state capitols that Union troops did not capture.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 136,628, an increase of 11,855 since 1990. The three largest employers in Tallahassee are the service industry, retail, and local and state government. Tallahassee is the home of the Florida A&M University campus. The city is served by the Tallahassee Regional Airport.

Tallahassee is part of the Tallahassee, Florida metro area.
