Sanford

Sanford is located in Seminole County just north of Orlando between Orlando and Daytona Beach along Highway 415 near Lake Monroe and Lake Jessup.

There is also a Sanford, Maine.

Sanford is part of the Orlando, Florida metro area.

During the 1830's, the area was the location of a U.S. Army post named Camp Monroe. After batteling with Seminole Indians the site was named Ft. Mellon, in honor of Capt. Charles Mellon who was killed in the engagement. In subsequent years, the community around the fort became known as Mellonville.

Popular attractions in Sanford include: Central Florida Zoo, the Marina, and a Civic Center. The town has also been designated as a location for many movies seeking a historic small town feel, including the major motion picture "My Girl."
