Fort Myers

Fort Myers is located in Lee County northwest of Miami between Punta Gorda and Naples along Interstate 75 on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River near the Gulf of Mexico. Fort Myers is part of the Fort Myers-Cape Coral, Florida metro area.

The area of Fort Myers seems able to combine almost effortlessly the best of the old and the new. Between Ponce de Leon's first visit to the area in 1513 and Thomas Edison's 1886 arrival with his bride, the area developed slowly. Since then, the pace has quickened.

Lee County Transit (LeeTran) buses drive regular routes around the county. Trolley shuttles are popular, particularly in beach areas.

If your favorite sport has anything to do with the water, then Lee County will please you. Whether you enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, jetskiing, diving snorkeling, waterskiing or parasailing your bound to find the wet stuff. Many call Fort Myers Beach "the world's safest beach" because of its shallow water and absence of undertow. Fishing is also big here in Fort Myers.
