Waterbury

Waterbury is located in New Haven County, west of Meriden between New Britain and Southbury, along Interstate 84 near Scoville Reservoir. Mattatuck State Forest is located just north.

Waterbury ranks first among U.S. cities in the manufacture of copper goods and brass, an industry that dates to 1802. Blanks for nickels are produced in Waterbury mills and sent to the United States Mint.

The original name of the settlement was Mattatuck when it was purchased from Indians in 1674. The name was changed to Waterbury when it was incorporated in 1686.

Waterbury is part of the Waterbury, Connecticut metro area.
