New Preston is located in Litchfield County northwest of Waterbury between Kent and Washington Depot along Highway 202 on the banks of the Still River near Lake Waramaug. Mount Bushnell State Park is just northwest.

New Preston is part of the Danbury, Connecticut metro area.
