New London

New London is located in New London County (of which it is the county seat) east of New Haven between Waterford and Groton along Interstate 95 at the mouth of the Thames River near Block Island Sound. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 23,869, a decrease of 4,671 since 1990.

New London is best known as the home of the United States Coast Guard Academy. It is also a center for trading, banking, and distribution for southeastern Connecticut. It was founded in 1646 and incorporated in 1784.

New London is part of the New London-Norwich metro area.
