Fairfield

Fairfield is located in Fairfield County just south of Bridgeport between Stratford and South Norwalk along Highway 1 near Long Island Sound. Sherwood Island State Park is nearby.

The community was named for the terrain or for the town in England. It was settled in 1639, but burned by the British during the revolution. Some of the homes survived to keep Fairfield going.

Roger Ludlow laed a small group of men and a large herd of cattle to the shore of Long Island Sound in 1639. At a place known to he local Indians as Unquowa, the group of men establisehd a settlement that became known as Fairfield.

Local attractions include: Shoal Point, Black Rock Harbor, Mill River, Samp Mortar Reservoir, Lake Forest, Success Lake, Hemlock Reservoir, Southport Harbor, Sherwood Island State Park, and nearby shopping in historic Bridgeport. There is also a covered bridge in Fairfield called Bernstein. Its 17' long and it was built in 1964.

Fairfield is part of the Bridgeport, Connecticut metro area.
