Danbury

Danbury is located in Fairfield County, northwest of Bridgeport between Brookfield and Bethel, along Highway 53. It is situated on the banks of the Still River, near Wooster Mountain State Park. A resort area at Candlewood Lake, which boasts more than 60 miles of shoreline, is just north.

Danbury is now a manufacturing city. Its products include optical equipment, ball bearings, pharmaceuticals and machinery, and it is the location of Union Carbide Corporation's headquarters. The Scott-Fanton Museum features a historical display of hats. The community is home to Western Connecticut State University.

Settled in 1685, the community was named in 1687 for Danbury, England and was incorporated as a town in 1702.
