Silverton

Visitors to Silverton will feel as if they had traveled back in time to the glory of the mining days of the late 1800's. Most of downtown is designated a National Historic District. Visitors can see the architecture which reflects the millions of dollars in gold and silver that enriched the city.

Today, Silverton is the only town remaining in San Juan County. A 14-day growing season encourages crops of rhubarb and horseradish in local gardens. Silverton has its own municipal ski hill. Several ghost towns can be visited nearby, and summer gunfights are presented weekly on Silverton's famous Blair street.

Silverton is popular with mountain bikers, hikers, skiers, and history buffs.

Each June, Silverton hosts a popular Folk Music Festival.
