Palisade

Palisade is truly the center for outdoor recreation in western Colorado. Skiing, fishing, hiking and camping are available on the Grand Mesa, the Colorado National Monument draws visitors with its scenic beauty, and the Colorado River offers plenty of opportunities for rafting. Nearby is the Little Bookcliffs Wild Horse Range, one of only three areas in the western United States that is set aside for herds of wild horses, which roam the sagebrush-studded hills.

The area grows grapes, peaches, apricots, and apples. Irrigation has enabled the semi-arid landscape into a rich soil perfect for growing fruit. Several vineyards have been producing nationally-acclaimed wines. Some wineries offer tours.

The Williams Creek Reservoir is a favorite spot for fishing, and winter recreation is provided at the Wolf Creek Ski Area. In addition to the famous local fruit and wine industries, the community offers Victorian neighborhoods and a cozy downtown shopping area, just minutes away from Walker Field airport.
