Denver

Denver is situated on the plains at the junctions of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek in central Colorado. The seat of Denver County, it is known as The Mile High City.

Founded in 1858, Denver became the territorial capital in 1867. Silver and gold strikes in the 1870s-80s ushered in prosperity.

Today Denver, population of about 2.4 million, boasts one of the world's largest sheep markets and is also one of the foremost cattle markets west of the Mississippi River.

Denver is regional headquarters for several U.S. government agencies and a base for many firms in high-tech research and development. Thousands come to Denver every year for education; institutions such as the University of Denver, University of Colorado at Denver, University of Colorado Health Sciences C, Regis University and Metropolitan State College of Denver. Cultural institutions include the Denver Art Museum. Attractions are diverse, from the intricate floral designs of Six Flags Elitch Gardens to Invesco Field at Mile High.
