Truckee

Truckee has always been a desired destination for many including early settler including the ill-fated Donner Party. The railroad, logging, and ice-harvesting industry have all thrived in the area and Truckee proudly retains much of its Old West flavor. Amtrak still makes a daily stops in Truckee.

The town of Truckee is home to the Donner Memorial State Park, home to the Emigrant Trail Museum and the Donner Monument. The park is a reminder of the areas emigrant history. The museum and surrounding grounds give an astonishing look at the perils of the Donner Party pioneers who were trapped in the Sierra Nevada because of an early winter.

Recreational activities in the National Forest Wilderness areas during spring, summer and fall months include hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and four wheeling.

Truckee is situated on Interstate 80 near the border with Nevada, Truckee is where visitors leave Interstate 80 via Highway 89 to reach Lake Tahoe.
