Temecula

The name Temecula comes from the Luiseo Indian word "Temecunga" - "temet" meaning "sun" and "-ngna" which means "place of".

The City of Temecula was incorporated on December 1, 1989. It is comprised of 27.1 square miles and is located in southwest Riverside County in the rural Temecula Valley, famous for its fine wines.

Temecula is located in Riverside County southeast of Los Angeles between Riverside and Escondido along Interstate 15 near Vail Lake and the Cleveland National Forest.

Temecula is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino, California metro area.
