Riverside

Riverside is the seat of Riverside County east of Los Angeles, between San Bernadino and Escondido. It lies along Highway 60 near Lake Perris and the Angeles National Forest.

In 1870, a development company acquired and platted the future townsite. Riverside was incorporated in 1883. Early growth was spurred by citrus farming. The first marketing cooperative, formed here in 1892, led to the California Fruit Growers Exchange. Industry followed in the early 1900s.

Today, Riverside is a citrus fruit-packing and diversified industrial hub. The University of California at Riverside operates a citrus experimental station. Attractions include California Citrus State Historic Park and the Parent Washington Navel Orange Tree, which is more than 130 years old and still produces fruit. Nearby are March Air Reserve Base and Riverside International Raceway.

There also is a Riverside, Wyoming.
