High Sierra

The High Sierra, the subject of tributes by the likes of Mark Twain and John Muir, symbolizes to many the essential American wilderness. It is home to the world's largest living thing, the sequoia, and its oldest, the Bristlecone Pine. The High Sierra Region also features Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks, several National Forests, eight state parks, two state historic parks, three state recreational areas, and a state reserve.

The High Sierra generally experiences warm, dry summers and cold, snowy and wet winters. The main highways accessing this region are 50 running east/west and 395 running north/south.
