Central Valley Region is the heart of California's agricultural roots. Rivers, lakes, and reservoirs offer many recreation opportunities. The Central Valley Region features portions of the Mendocino National Forest in the north, two state parks, eight state recreation areas, four state historic parks, and one state reserve.
A generally warm, dry climate prevails in the Central Valley, it is hot in the summer, mild in the winter. Grassland, streams and rivers, and gigantic lakes that spread across the flat land greeted Jedediah Smith in 1828, and the settlers that followed him. It is also the home of many species of wildlife, in the large tracts of land that have been set aside for their preservation.
The Central Valley Region, located in the middle of California, stretches from south of Bakersfield, north to almost Chico. It includes the cities of Bakersfield, Fresno Merced and Stockton. The main highway accessing this region is Interstate 5.
