Los Angeles

Los Angeles is located in Greater Los Angeles and it is the county seat. It lies about 100 miles north of San Diego along Interstate 5, near the Angeles National Forest and the Pacific Ocean.

Los Angeles began as a farming settlement established by the Spanish in 1781. Throughout the 19th century it was an easy-going agricultural pueblo. However, in the last century, Los Angeles began to generate lifestyles attractive to the rest of the nation. It drew newcomers from every other state and many other countries, transforming the farming community into an energetic Megalopolis

Today Los Angeles, the state's largest city at 3,694,820, is one of the country's major commercial, financial and industrial centers. LA is also known for its semi-arid climate, icon-studded scenery, motion picture and television facilities, freeways, air pollution and occasional earthquakes. The area boasts innumerable tourist attractions.

Los Angeles is part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach, California metro area.
