Long Beach

Long Beach is located in Greater Los Angeles just south of Los Angeles, between Redondo Beach and Huntington Beach. It lies along Highway 1, near the Los Angeles Harbor and Pacific Ocean.

Developer William Willmore laid out Willmore City in 1882. In 1888, the present name was adopted to highlight the city's evolution into a beach community.

Today, Long Beach is the state's fifth largest city, and a significant industrial, shipping, commercial and resort center. Of interest are the Long Beach Museum of Art, Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and El Dorado Nature Center. The former ocean liner Hotel Queen Mary (hha), now a hotel and Spa, is perhaps Long Beach's best-known attraction.

For those seeking transportation to Catalina Island, they will find two ferry landings in Longbeach. The main ferry landing is at the City Hall Plaza, the other is about 100 Yards from the Queen Mary. The city is home to a campus of California State University.

There also is a Long Beach, Mississippi.

Long Beach is part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach, California metro area.
