Laguna Beach was first occupied by an Indian tribe named the Ute-Aztecas (later the Shoshones). The Native tribe named the area Lagonas, their word for lakes. When the Spaniards arrived they applied the name Canada de las Lagunas (Canyon of the Lakes). And in 1904, the name of the area was officially changed from Lagonas to Laguna Beach.
Laguna Beach is and always has been a resort area. Laguna Beach is famous for its Pageant of the Masters and the many art festivals the city holds.
Laguna Beach is located south of Los Angeles between Long Beach and San Clemente along Interstate 5 near the San Pedro Channel and the Pacific Ocean.
