Healdsburg is tucked between three valleys and surrounded by over 60 wineries, Healdsburg is in the heart of the wine country. Healdsburg was first home to the Pomo Indians who built their villages along the Russian River. The Gold Rush brought settlers west and many stayed as farmers. A man by the name of Harmon Heald built a store and post office in the area and in 1867, Healdsburg was incorporated. With the extension of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad in 1871, Healdsburg took in visitors and increased commerce.
