The Fort Bragg area used to be inhabited by Native Americans whom belonged to the Pomo tribe. Later the the land was turned into an Indian reservation in 1856. Years later a military post was established at the Mendocino Indian Reservation. It was named after Captain Braxton Bragg who later became a General in the Civil War fighting for the Confederate Army.
The city has a rich history spanning from the Indian reservation to the military post and to the modern day milling city of the dense redwood forests. The town has several state parks nearby as well as many city attractions for the visting tourist. Vistitors can enjoy Glass Beach or the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.
Fort Bragg is located in Mendocino County north of San Francisco between Mendocino and Garberville along Highway 1 near the Pacific Ocean.
