Brentwood

Brentwood is located in eastern Contra Costa County, on the western edge of the Great Central Valley and the Sacramento River Delta. Still a rural farming community in mid-20th century, it has become a thriving suburb of the larger Concord, Martinez and Walnut Creek communities further to the west. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 17,617, an increase of 10,054 since 1990. It was named after the English home of John Marsh, a landholder.

The modern San Francisco Bay Area electric commuter train, BART, terminates at the Pittsburg station, not far from Brentwood. Brentwood is about 70 miles east of San Francisco making Brentwood a bedroom community for San Francisco.

Situated as it is, with close BART access to the west and the 1,500 square mile river delta to the east, Brentwood the best of both worlds. Agriculture is still a mainstay industry due to the abundance of water and California sunshine.
