Ucluelet

In Ucluelet, everything revolves around the ocean. Fishing, whale watching, nature cruises and diving draw visitors from around the world. Divers rave about the numerous species found in the clear waters around the Broken Group Islands of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Go deep sea fishing (one of the largest fleets of guided charter vessels on the west coast) or catch salmon, cod and halibut in Barkley Sound. From mid-March to mid-April, during the height of the gray whale migration from Baja to the Arctic Ocean, there are a number of community events, including guided hikes, tours and lectures by whale researchers. The whales can easily be seen in vast numbers from shore or from tour boats. Cozy motels and resorts welcome visitors. Ucluelet's name derives from an Indian word meaning "the people with the good landing place for canoes."
