Salt Spring Island

The largest and most populous of the Gulf Islands. Sheep farming is a major component of Saltspring's economy. In fact, Saltspring lamb is an internationally recognized gourmet food. Three ferries providing a forty mile trip around the island, dock at Long Harbour, Fulford Harbour and Vesuvius Bay. Other attractions include the Farmers' Market in Ganges; a well-known luxury inn, the Hastings House; arts and crafts galleries, and beach resorts around St Mary Lake (the largest body of fresh water in the Gulf Islands); yachting, cycling, fishing, golfing; English pubs; hiking, camping & beachcombing at Beaver Point; and wonderful views of the islands & mainland from Baynes Peak in Mount Maxwell Provincial Park.
