Cranbrook

Facing the Purcell Mountains to the west, and the Rockies to the north and east, Cranbrook is surrounded by miles of lush forest and more than 100 crystal clear lakes. Founded in 1898 with the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Cranbrook has become the centre for this region of British Columbia. With a population of nearly 16,000, the town serves an area of over 55,000. The town boasts more sunshine hours annually than any other place in British Columbia, and is surrounded by lakes and campgrounds that are famous for their scenery. It's a favorite spot for animal-watching, water sports, hunting and fishing during the summer. During the winter, skiers can enjoy fabulous resorts within 1 1/2 hours of the city.

Idlewild Park, located right in the city, has lake fishing for those under age 15 or over 65.
